Updated recommendations, added Pocket and Readability

In the last months, we’ve added so many new features to QUOTE.fm, that it’s possible that some of them run the risk of getting forgotten. Until now everything you could do with a recommendation was hidden a click away behind that little arrow icon.

That’s going to change from now on. We’ve added some new buttons to the grey bar, for example recite, embed and when QUOTE.fm Read will be released, the bar will also feature a prominent “Read Later” button. The few of you helping us test the beta will see it already, for everyone else it’s going to show up soon.

Why are we doing this? On the one hand we want to feature some functions more prominently. Recites are important for us and the platform and we hope you’re going to use them more regularly when the button is only one click away. Read Later of course will be the other half of QUOTE.fm so that’s a good reason for having that button there. Besides we’re adding new sharing services and the little arrow-menu became a bit crowded.

Pocket & Readability

We wanted to do so for ages, but we didn’t got around to it, however, it’s there now: You can send all stories to Pocket and Readability, to read and store them there. Just enable sharing in your settings.

There is another thing coming soon: Our Write API. At the moment there aren’t many apps that can post to QUOTE.fm, actually it’s only the site, Reeder for iPhone and the iPad app beta, but we hope that changes as soon as the Write API is usable for everyone. From now on, you’ll be able to see on the permalink page of a single recommendation, which app has been used to post it.
